Biography
Kai Cheng Thom is a Toronto-based poet, fiction writer, performer and social worker. In her debut collection, a place called No Homeland, she writes fierce, tender narrative poems that explore what it’s like to be Asian in queer and trans communities, and that celebrate the bodies of marginalized people. Her first novel, Fierce Femmes and Notorious Liars, a coming-of-age story about a young transgender girl of Chinese descent who runs away from an abusive home, won the Dayne Ogilvie Prize for LGBTQ Emerging Writers. She’s also written a children’s picture book, From the Stars in the Sky to the Fish in the Sea, about a child who transcends binaries, and a book of essays, I Hope We Choose Love: A Trans Girl's Notes from the End of the World.
